The ‘Infrastructure Man of India,’ Nitin Gadkari, delivered a keynote address at the NIMS University Convocation. His presence on stage radiated contagious enthusiasm, serving as a powerful reminder that true success is more than mere academic degrees and material wealth. Instead, it is defined by the impact we make and the knowledge we accumulate along the way.
In his terms, ‘Success includes not only what you achieve, but also what you contribute and learn from others.’
Rooted in a philosophy that values the power of knowledge and recognizes the inborn potential within every individual, he put emphasis on the importance of group effort and humility in achieving incredible feats.
Drawing inspiration from the narrative of Starbucks, he stated that genuine success comes from lifting others up alongside oneself, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective empowerment and shared prosperity.
“A friend of mine asked how I feel after meeting great people all around the world. I said those I thought were great are not as great after being perceived. Those I did not perceive as great have been greater than my thoughts.”
No philosophy can be taught on an empty stomach. Money is necessary to life, not a way of life. Social consciousness, Social awareness, and Social responsibility are all important.”
Gadkari highlighted that the path to a prosperous future relies heavily on technology, innovation, and social responsibility. He restated our collective responsibility to foster positive change through technology and the adoption of ethical business practices.
“Technology is doing wonders, from turning sewage into irrigation water to solid and liquid waste management.
Our PM aims for a 5 trillion economy; it is based on your shoulders. Some people turn problems into opportunities, and others turn opportunities into problems. It is possible to use technology to convert the basic things we see as problems.
Futuristic planning is very important. You can give an eye; you cannot give a vision. Decision-making capacity, teamwork and vision can change the world.
Capital industries will drive poorness away; we need to work for social equality. We should not accept discrimination and try our best for the poor. Nothing is waste; recycling, willpower, and positivity make it all possible.”
He persuaded the graduating class to remain steadfast in their values and aim for excellence; he portrayed India as a nation that takes pride in its rich traditions, innovative spirit, and societal progress.
Expanding on the topic, he probed into the significance of agriculture and the role of farmers. He laid emphasis on the shift towards harnessing agricultural resources for energy production, particularly the importance of biofuel in this transition. He stressed the urgent need to boost exports and curb imports across various sectors to strengthen the economy.
Moreover, his discussion covered developments in lithium-ion battery technology and the promotion of electric vehicles as key components of sustainable development. He also touched upon effective waste management practices and the introduction of entrepreneurship initiatives aimed at nurturing innovation in these critical areas.
He drew inspiration from the words of the Marathi poet Shivaji Sawant, highlighting the importance of wisdom and introspection in life’s journey.
‘Vismruthi, ye vyakti ko bhagwan ki sabse badi den hai.’
“Forgetfulness is the biggest gift to humans by the Almighty. So help and forget. Others will remember it, and if you deserve it, you will get it. Respect should not be demanded; it should be commanded.
India is great and value-based when it comes to values, history and tradition. Globally, the preference for Indian professionals shines bright: where Americans boast of 10 doctors, there stand 6 Indians, that truly verifies the trust and expertise placed in Indian professionals.
India is the number one engineering country. Technology, innovation and research science is the sturdy backbone of our youth. Even in a technologically advanced country like Japan, the Prime Minister himself has acknowledged the competence of Indian engineers.
You are the base of all this manpower but remember to be disciplined and respectful. This is your first passing in life, but hold your values close so you can derive meaning from life. Be great, be scholarly, be a good person, and above all things, be a better addition to the society.”
Dr. Balvir S. Tomar, Chancellor and Chairman of NIMS University, in his address to the guests, stated,
“I feel we are in the presence of people with great personalities and honour. Our Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has led the revolution of our nation inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Swami Vivekananda. His projects like Bharatmala and advocacy for alternative fuels have nicknamed him the ‘Flyover Man of India.’
Our royal guest and 6th Dep. CM Diya Kumari aims to serve the poor and women, especially by establishing skill centres for illiterate and helpless people. On the other hand, Our 7th Dep. CM Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa is the voice of the underprivileged. He is renowned for championing the cause of the marginalized as he integrates his academic achievement with his commitment to advocacy for the poor and needy.
Take your role model among the three present here. They are ideal symbols of success and humility.”
