National Moot Court Competition Hosted at NIMS University Rajasthan in association with the Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl first)

NIMS University Rajasthan hosted a three-day event with the Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First), a First-of-its-kind in the state of Rajasthan. The Competition extended from 19th to 21st August 2023. The event began with the inauguration ceremony that took place on 19th August, 2023, in the presence of renowned dignitaries and guests from the Legal domain. 

This three-day event brought together exceptional law students from esteemed institutions nationwide, providing aspiring legal professionals with an opportunity to showcase their legal knowledge and astute advocacy abilities.

The Inaugural Ceremony was adorned by the presence of the Special Guest- Hon’ble Sh. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Law & Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Government of India, along with the graceful attendance of distinguished legal luminaries like Chief Guest- Hon’ble Mr Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Sh. Manan Kumar Mishra- Sr. Advocate, Chairman, Bar Council of India & BCIT-PF, Sh. S. Prabakaran- Sr. Advocate, Vice-Chairman, BCIT-PF, Sh. Followed by the Valedictory Ceremony with a welcome to the special guest of the ceremony, Former Justice of Allahabad High Court- R.N. Pandey, Former Justice of Patna High Court. Judicial Member of Armed Forces Tribunal- Mrs. Anjana Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Chanakya National Law University, Patna, Former Judge – Patna High Court – Mrs. Mridula Mishra and Honorable guests Mr. Suresh Chandra Shrimali – Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India and Managing Trustee Bar Council of India (Trust First), Mr. Hemant Nahta – Advocate, Rajasthan High Court, Mr.S.S. Hora – Senior Advocate, Rajasthan High Court and Director – S.S. Hora & Associates, and Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, India International University of Legal Education and Research- Goa, Prof. R. Venkata Rao – were all present.

The keynote speech at the Inaugural Ceremony was delivered by Union Minister of State (IC) for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, as he ascended to address the students from across the nation present at the National Moot Court Competition 2023. He said, “Today your presence in this competition is the first step in taking forward your professional journey. He continued that, “India has a history of democratic traditions as seen in the assemblies during the time of Arvind Gosh and that Indian advocates have great power to attain knowledge through logical analysis.” He further added as we are celebrating the festival of Freedom- ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, he emphasized on the important role of legal professionals as torchbearers who played extraordinary efforts in gaining Independence.

“Judiciary is the third pillar of Democracy. You play a vital role in safeguarding the principles of Democracy and Justice. Mahatma Gandhi should be your idol if you are a part of the judiciary. As he was the epitome of truth, patience and determination.”

Law Minister Mr Meghwal made the law students aware that according to Western philosophers, before Magna Carta, there was a “conflict between the rule of law and the rule of man”. Mr. Meghwal said, Article 35 of the Magna Carta provides that in future, there will be the rule of law, which is the foundation of Democracy. Referring to the parliamentary proceedings, he explained how logical analysis will work in your life, and if you are in the field of advocacy, then you must learn it.

Prof. (Dr.) addressed the young legal minds,” I think a lot about my country. And no matter where I am in the world, I feel proud when I hear about India’s greatness. You are the future law experts of the country, use your legal knowledge for the upliftment of the society.” He continued, “National Moot Court Competition 2023 is going to create history. The Young minds need to focus on a goal and decide where they want to reach in life. Never give up and face challenges head on, focus on your agenda and move forward with your head high.”

Dr. Tomar urged the young generation to adopt ‘Effective Decision, Effective Execution, Effective Time Management and Growth Mindset and implement it’. He also said, “whatever you have learned here in these three days, always keep in mind what you are bringing from NIMS, this experience will play an important role in your life. In all of you we see India’s best judges, justices, lawyers, and law professionals, I hope you will always use your legal education for the development of India.”

He wished all the winners, runners up and participants a better future. He gave a message to adopt greatness and humility. He said that the world is a small place, it doesn’t matter which university you represent, but the important thing is that you participated in the first national-level moot session of your life with whole hard work and dedication.

Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, emerged as the winner of the National Moot Court Competition 2023, while Quantum University, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, was the runner-up.

Best Memorial- Round First went to Symbiosis Law School, Noida, Delhi N.C.R, Best Memorial- Round Second went to Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh Uttar Pradesh, and Best Memorial – Semi-Final Round went to Al-Azhar Law College, Thodupuzha, Idukki, Kerala & Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan was awarded for Best Memorial Final Round.

Khushi from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar championed the best speaker in the first round, Pranav Mathur, Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, scored the best speaker in the second round, Juveria Kazmi – Quantum University, Roorkee, Uttarakhand was selected as the best speaker in the third round, and Bhavya Kunra, Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana was chosen as the best speaker in the final round.

Meanwhile, Rohit Kumar Yadav, Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, was declared the Best Student Advocate (Male), Final Round and Bhavya Kunra, Starex University, Gurugram, Haryana, was declared the Best Student (Female), Final Round.

The Memorial exchange from the university presented an exciting challenge for participants from across the legal spectrum, and the teams prepared admirably within a short period of time.

The Valedictory Ceremony of the three-day Moot Court Competition 2023 was organized on 21st August 2023.

“Today, we are proud to announce that NIMS School of Law, in association with the Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First), has taken this mission to new heights. With a vision to elevate the practice of debate and make it a tradition of celebration, we have crossed boundaries and set new benchmarks of excellence in legal advocacy.” The National Moot Court 2023 has made history for generations to come. The name of NIMS University is embedded in golden letters in the pioneers of legal education.
