NIMS University Rajasthan, in collaboration with the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) and the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), is proud to announce the 3rd AUAP-WFUNA Leadership Training Program. Scheduled to take place from December 9-13, 2024, in the historic city of Vienna, Austria, this esteemed program offers a unique opportunity for young university professionals aspiring to take on significant management roles in international settings.

Building on the success of the previous Leadership Training Program held in New York, this intensive event is designed to provide participants with in-depth insights into the workings of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. The program will feature a blend of lectures, interactive sessions, and site visits, including a tour of the United Nations and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). Participants will also engage with key representatives from the UN, gain practical knowledge through case studies, and explore the roles of various UN agencies.

The program’s schedule includes various activities, such as discussions on leadership within the UN context, a cultural tour of Vienna, and a guided visit to the University of Vienna. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with university professionals, interact with students from other UN universities, and participate in a closing ceremony with certification and group activities.

The program participants will be introduced to the training agenda and objectives, including an introduction to the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP). Participants will board on a comprehensive tour of the United Nations and visit the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) along with interactive sessions featuring presentations from WFUNA and AUAP representatives, as well as briefings by external speakers, setting the stage for an immersive learning experience.

This program will emphasize on the intersection of leadership and international diplomacy. Participants will delve into leadership principles applicable within both the academic and UN contexts. A case study on the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will provide practical insights and also include a lecture and interactive exchange with an Austrian scholar specializing in international relations, offering a unique perspective on global leadership and the role of academia.

Participants will explore the diverse work of UN specialized agencies based in Vienna. It will feature discussions on the roles and challenges faced by permanent missions at the UN. They will gain understandings into the civil use of nuclear power with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), understand the work of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and learn about UNOSAT’s contributions to satellite technology and its applications in humanitarian efforts.

A break from intensive training would be dedicated to cultural enrichment. Participants will be guided on a tour of Vienna, exploring its historical landmarks, architectural marvels, and vibrant cultural sites. This excursion will let them experience the city’s rich heritage and provide a relaxed setting for informal networking and reflection on the program’s learnings.

The visit to the University of Vienna is where participants will meet with university professionals and engage in discussions about academic collaboration and global education. The transit to the UN for a final engagement with students from various UN universities with a closing ceremony, including an evaluation survey, certificate presentation, and a group photo to commemorate the experience.

This carefully structured agenda warrants that participants not only gain valuable international diplomacy and UN operations but also enjoy a comprehensive in Vienna.

Registration fees for the event are USD 3,000 for AUAP members and USD 3,500 for non-AUAP members, with the registration period running from March 1 to October 31. As space is limited and early registration is recommended, we encourage interested individuals to secure their spots promptly. This program not only provides a valuable learning experience but also an opportunity to build lasting networks and gain firsthand experience in international diplomacy.
